Hello,
The camera is marvelous but the price is just intimidating. Like a student with a lot of interest in photography, this camera is simply out of reach. I need a camera of this calibre as I will be traveling to Tanzania this summer for data collection. I am sure there's a lot to capture and share with the rest of world. What other good camera (with the modest price) can you recommend?
Thanks,

Eliezeri, If you want to stick with Nikon the D700 digital SLR has been getting some good reviews. It's a 12.1 megapixel CMOS camera, with live view and a self cleaning sensor—selling for under $3,000. The next major price point for Nikon is the N90, though not full frame, its price of under $850 is very attractive. It also shoots video.

Eliezeri.
I must say, if you are strapped for cash..the D90 is the wy to go, especally with its video captue feature; However: D700 is exceptional technology! But, it gets expensive there too! You just can't leave with just the body and lens! There are other exceptional lens and optional equipment for specific applications and images. If you go high tech, go with a system in sync and designed for the objectives. The camera technology may cost more than the trip?

I'm a newbie in photography I just bought my DSLR Sony 300 though I'm a big fan of Nikon D90.Budget's calling I choose Sony now I'm thinking that maybe I made a big mistake for not buying what I really want although Sony is also good and the reviews for sony 300 are great. Is it true what people says that the body of the camera doesnt count its the lense that is really important?

Mann.. i want one so badly

very cool. Now this would take great pictures for digital frames. Sony always comes through even when not in their core.

Wow, $8,000 I am in the market as well for a new Nikon Pro-Series camera because my wife and I are getting into the Wedding field. I operate with my trusty Nikon D50 right now and have actually shot a wedding with it already. You can see my results at www.bklphotos.com I am beginning to believe that one of the most important pieces of equipment to have is the eye itself. Maybe one day I will be able to pack my bag with the new D3X. I feel your pain Eliezeri.

Thanks but no thanks. The D3X goes back to the "If your rich your a great photographer" folks. Yea sure 24mp will go go bill board size nicely. I fail to see how that helps shooting for a magazine leta lone the rest of us. I consider it something for the equipment snobs. I shoot a lowly D40x, and am happy with it,.....for now. The D90? Yea, I could see that. Likely my next camera.

For $8000, what this camera gives you comes with a hefty price.

I'm planning on buying either a nikkon d300 or a cannon 50d..what would you recommend for a all purpose useful camera?
Dec 10, 2008 5PM #
The question is how fast will the price drop? These may be niche enough for high end digital photographers to stay pricey for a while.
Dec 10, 2008 5PM #
I would love to own one. But the price is too steep. *sigh* I resolve to save up for one and photography classes just so I can make maximize the use of the camera. The question is.. when will I be able to afford it?
Dec 10, 2008 5PM #
The camera is more than marvelous but the price is just too huge. As News paper photographer I would like my company to have this type of camera but they cant afford.
Thanks,

You are a Great Photographer if you can get the image, no matter what equipment you use. Money does determine the level or quality of the image and photographer. I can't think of one person with a disposable camera making the grade?
A person that spent some money on the tools needed to do the job does fair better than those that did not. The difference is obvious in the output of work. The more money camera will give you your moneys worth. It could go beyond that if you understand the capabilities of the system and the rules of caputing a perfect image. D3X D700 Nikon.

If you want state of the art equipment and price is no object, you will own this camera. As for the rest of us we can still dream..

The design is a bit bulky. But I guess most SRL cameras are. The price is extremely high although I would like to see some photo samples above 200 ISO.
