Photo: Vadhav Ganpati festival

November 27, 2007

Photographer Ed Kashi found himself in a rowdy crowd when he captured this policewoman forging her way through the village of Vadhav, near Mumbai in India. A red powder fills the air and covers the villagers as they celebrate the end of Ganpati, an annual festival honoring the popular elephant-headed Hindu god Ganesh. Spirits were high, but this could be the last time the village celebrates this festival. If it becomes part of a proposed Special Economic Zone, the village, and the surrounding 45,000 acres (18,000 hectares), will be razed to make way for factories.

Fantastic shot; guess you were in the right place at the right time. I love the way you managed such a tight shot, almost looks like the forefront figure is leaving the image (and my computer screen). Would like to know what lens you used….maybe a 17-35mm?

Journalistic/photographic story-telling at its best. Congratulations!
